Happy Happy New Year!

We had a great Chinese New Year celebrations on 20 January 2012! It was not only exciting, but educational as well. First of all, almost all my friends came in their Chinese costume. Even the teachers look fantastic in their Chinese attire. It was really a great sight!

We first started by indulging in some activities by creating some Chinese New Year related art, such as blow calligraphy and paper cutting. We also tried some New Year goodies. The creations we made could contribute to the Chinese New Year decor in our homes. In fact, I was impressed with my own creations. I did not know I was so artistic.

Showing off Our Creations!

Sorry Mr Koh and Mrs Lim! I think my blow calligraphy is better!

The concert was really enjoyable. We invited many guests, including the workers that helped build our schools. We also presented them with our class-made hampers just to say thank you and to wish them a happy new year too. I think they were very happy to be with us, and to see us all so appreciative of the work that they had done. Our concert was fun. We had a close-up encounter with the lion. I even touched the lion! Wow! Luckily, it did not bite me! We also performed our songs. We did not have much time to prepare but I thought we did well. The crowd was warm in their applause. Our Chinese Language teacher, Mr Chon also performed. He looked like a rock star as he sang to all of us.

Thank you for building our school

Don't forget to throw some luck to me!

We made these!

The day went so well that I was disappointed that it ended. We had a photograph taken. It was a photograph of all the P1s and the teachers. This could be Frontier's first photograph with all the staff and pupils in it. A Historical Moment!

I cannot wait to tell my parents what we did today!

Preparing for Chinese New Year Celebration

This Friday (20 January 2012), we will be celebrating Chinese New Year. I am really looking forward to this event! There will be a lot of activities that we will be doing that day. We will be watching a concert and I am performing! We have been learning to sing Chinese New Year songs and my teacher is also performing. She is going to play the guzheng! We are working hard and it has been a fun experience! Singing the songs also enable us to learn new Chinese words, so I am also learning my Chinese!

The lion dance is also coming! I must remember to tell my mom and dad to get my Chinese New Year clothing ready. I think it is cool that we can come in our Chinese New Year costumes or wear red! We don't have to bring our school books that day. We will just need to bring a small bag with stationery. I must remember to pack my glue, scissors and colouring pencils. We are going for a learning trail too on Friday. In this trail, we will do some paper cutting, blow-calligraphy and other activities.

We are also packing hampers for the event. I think it is a good idea for everyone to bring something to put into the hamper. We are going to wrap it up and present it to the workers who have toiled many, many hours to build our school. It is our way of saying "Thank you and Happy New Year!" I am really looking forward to this!

 新年快乐!

First Day of School - 3 Jan 2012

This is my Class. This is my School.
It's school time! All the children, in our smart school uniform, were feeling rather excited and even nervous at the same time. After all, we were experiencing a lot of new things. There were new teachers, new friends, and in this case, a brand new school which was opening for the very first time. Luckily, these "worries" only stuck around for a little while, as very soon, we were engaged in numerous activities!
The proud and anxious parents!

All of us assembled in the school parade square. Our anxious parents stayed close by, watching us with pride! My mom said that I have grown up! After the flag raising ceremony, we went to the classroom. I was no longer nervous as I met my new friends whom I got to know during the school orientation in December.

Walking Back to Our Classroom! Don't Worry, Mommy, I am Going to be Fine!

I like my colourful class!
The teachers introduced themselves and talked about what we would be doing in the first week. We were told that the school was using an aesthetics approach to orientate us to the school. The school called this: "Aesthetics Week!" This was fun! The aim of the Aesthetics Week was to create a platform where we can explore, learn and enjoy art and music. At the same time, the programme would enable us to better understand ourselves in relation to our new school and class, and to make even more new friends. To top it all, we would have a chance to perform and demionstrate to our parents on Friday so that they know what we have done in Aesthetics Week. I am looking forward to this already!

Enjoying my Meal!
We also ate in class with all our friends and teacher. This helped us bond. The teacher was right. Our class got closer as we ate together! We also learnt healthy habits like washing hands before we ate. Do you know that we have a tap in our classroom?!! We then went on a tour of the school! Wow! The school is so big and it is just for us!

I am on TV! I am Famous!

To make the day even more exciting, the media took an active interest in us and Frontier Primary School opening for the first time. Some of the media coverage can by found here in Press Coverage.  I even appeared in the newspapers the next day!

Touring the School!

I will always remember my first day of School! My teacher said that we are a special batch because we are the first Frontierers! I think I am going to enjoy my primary school life!

Regards,
A Frontierer

School Orientation - 17 December 2011

Frontier Primary School is Finally Ready to Open!

The Rooms are Ready!
17 December 2011 finally arrived. This was the day where we would formally open the school to the children and their parents. A lot of work has been put into getting the school ready. Although this was the first time that the teachers have to work together as a team, everything went like clockwork. The Frontier team looked real smart in the orange outfit! These are some photographs taken that day!

Pupils Doing some Classroom Activities
The children were assembled in their classrooms, while their parents went to the hall. The children adjusted very well, like fish to water! There were 8 classes for the first ever batch of pupils in Frontier Primary School. The classes are known as P1 Responsibility, Resilience, Respect, Care, Creativity, Confidence, Innovation and Joy. The classrooms were already nicely decorated and the children appeared to like this new environment.

Principal Sharing Salient Points
The parents listened to a briefing given by the Principal. The briefing helped the parents understand what the school had planned for the children in 2012. They saw the school uniform for the first time. After the briefing, they went to do the necessary paper work. They then went to pick their children up from the class and purchased the school books, uniform and booked the bus services. The children are going to be ready for school opening on 3 Jan 2012!
We are happy that the parents had taken such an active role in involving themselves in the School Orientation. The Orientation gave both child and parents an idea of what to expect for the first few days of school. The children also got to meet their classmates for the first time and when they returned to school on 3 Jan 2012, they would feel more assured as they would see familiar faces.
